Line of Enquiry, O’Connell’s video-installation examines the human condition, one’s overwhelming need to achieve, to comprehend, to search out and find that missing something, whether it be a thing, a person, something spiritual or an answer to a question that one perceives will make one whole. As narratives, we are each of us unique in one’s search, each a singular narrative, a biography with a singular outcome, constructed continually, unconsciously, through one’s perceptions, one’s thoughts, feelings, actions and, not least, one’s discourse. The installation depicts the unremitting physical search by 12 non-descript actors for something never revealed. The actors are kitted out in white forensic body suits and each clutching a red and white pole used to aid in their continuous search through multiple terrains, i.e. forests, woodlands and baron landscapes etc.
